PROFESSOR EMERITUS, 2021 - PRESENT


PROFESSOR SCHOOL OF JUSTICE AND HUMAN SERVICES AND PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR, FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM, DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY AND NUEROSCIENCE, COLLEGE OF PSYCHOLOGY: Taught doctoral, Master of Science and undergraduate course in Case Conceptualization, Intellectual Assessment and Interviewing, Interrogation and Report Writing. Managed curriculum development, teaching assignments and quality assurance of Program. (January 2014 – 2021)


PROVOST EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY, FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA

Responsible for academic development and quality assurance of university-wide academic programs, for supervision of university deans, for oversight of university research, libraries, health services, K-12 offerings and athletics and for representing academic needs to the President and the Board of Trustees. The University offers degree programs at the Doctoral, Master of Science and Undergraduate levels. Colleges and programs include, Law, Business, Psychology, Education, Computer Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Oceanography, Criminal Justice, Allied Health, Osteopathic Medicine Allopathic Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Optometry, Medical Sciences, K-12 Lower and High School, and the Family Center.  As the University’s Chief Academic Officer, the P&EVPAA serves on the President’s cabinet and as Chair of the University Council of Deans. UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR, NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY, FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA:  Activities include academic and administrative assignments made throughout the University. (1997-2021. Appointments made by the President included:


-CHAIR, ACADEMIC REVIEW

Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive program of academic review for all degree programs throughout the University. Process includes both peer/faculty review of academic programs as well as external/expert review of programs (July 2002– 2005).


-CHAIR, NEW PROGRAM CONSULTATION AND REVIEW

Responsible for program review and consultation in proposal development for all new programs at Nova Southeastern University. Provided consultative feedback to program and recommendations to the President regarding overall quality of program proposal. (May 2003 – 2006).


-CHAIR, CRIMINAL JUSTICE INSTITUTE

Responsible for the establishment of the Criminal Justice Institute. Institute activities included the development of a multidiscipline cooperative programs, Master of Science program, Continuing Education offerings and coordination of university-wide criminal justice activities (2000- 2008).


-ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR ADMINISTRATION, COLLEGE OF DENTAL MEDICINE, HEALTH PROFESSIONS DIVISION, NOVA SOUTHEASTER UNIVERSITY, FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA.  Responsible for assisting in the development and for overseeing the administration of the College of Dental Medicine.  Activities included the development of budgetary, human resources, operating policy-procedures, etc. (2000- 2003).


-ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR ACADEMIC AND STUDENT AFFAIRS, COLLEGE OF DENTAL MEDICINE, HEALTH PROFESSIONS DIVISION, NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY, FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA.  Responsible for overseeing the curriculum development and the establishment and management of Academic and Student related policies and procedures in this newly established (Fall 1997) College (1997- 2000).


FOUNDING DEAN, CENTER FOR PSYCHOLOGICAL STUDIES, (Renamed College of Psychology), NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY, FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA.

- Responsible for managing the reorganization of the Department of Psychology, the Professional School of Psychology, and the Community Mental Health Center into the combined Center for Psychological Studies. 

  • Nova Southeastern University’s Center for Psychological Studies maintained 240 full-time employees, 200 part-time employees, and functioned with a $20 million operating budget. 
  • Specific duties included administering and providing supervision for the management and development of the
    • APA accredited Clinical Ph.D. and Clinical Psy.D. Programs 
    • APA accredited Clinical Internship Programs
    • Master of Science programs
    • Post Doctoral Residency Training Programs
    • Nova Southeastern University Community Mental Health Center. The CMHC served about 3000 outpatients and 62 inpatients (1984-1997)

- Selected Highlights

Capital Projects

  • Coordinated fund raising, planning and construction of 65,000 sq ft, $8.5 million, Maltz Psychology building. Certificate of Occupancy obtained July 1996.
  • Managed the fund raising, planning and construction of 28,000 sq ft, $1.4 million Residential, Homeless-Geriatric in-patient facility. Certificate of occupancy, August 1988.
  • Organized and planned several renovation projects including clinical facilities, student study space and conference rooms. 
  • Received about $35 million over 10-year period from State of Florida and Broward County to develop and evaluate demonstration projects to provide clinical services to chronic mentally ill and acute/crisis services to South Florida residents. The period of funding included 1986 to 1998.
  • Received approximately $8 million over 8-year period from Federal, Housing Urban Development, to provide housing and inpatient rehabilitative services to homeless, mentally ill patients. The period of funding included 1988 to 1996.

Professional and Academic Accreditation

  • Oversaw obtainment of initial and continued American Psychological Association accreditation for doctoral programs in Psychology.
  • Oversaw obtainment of initial and continued APA accreditation of clinical internship program.
  • Participated in and provided leadership for 4 Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) University reaccreditations. 

Program Development

  • Organized existing University clinic programs into Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center
  • Oversaw establishment and management of sixty-four bed inpatient geriatric-homeless program.

University Service

  • Co-founded (and chaired) University Council of Deans
  • Established President’s Faculty Scholarship Award
  • Chaired Provost search, Vice President’s searches, Dean’s searches, and served on NSU Presidential search.
  • Assisted in the establishment of the College of Dental Medicine, the Criminal Justice Institute, and the Aviation Program.
  • Established Academic Review Process at Nova Southeastern University


PROFESSOR OF PSYCHOLOGY, CENTER FOR PSYCHOLOGICAL STUDIES, NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY, FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA. Responsible for teaching at the Doctoral, Masters and Undergraduate levels, providing clinical and research supervision within the Clinical Psychology Programs (APA accredited) and Master of Science Programs in the Center for Psychological Studies, Assistant Professor; Associate Professor; Professor 1980 through 2021.


Non-Academic


Private Practice. Provided out-patient psychological services (including intellectual and neuropsychological assessment and psychotherapy) for adults and children; Services provided pro bono within university service clinics; provided consultation to local law enforcement departments regarding witness interviewing (1980-1998).


Consultant. Provided consultation to the Department of Professional Regulation of Florida, Board of Examiners in Psychology. This consultation included the site visit of programs whose graduates were considered for licensure, expert presentation at board meetings and expert testimony before State of Florida Hearing Officer (1990 - 1997).


Psychologist, South Carolina State Department of Corrections: Chief Psychologist, Department of Reception & Evaluation. Responsible for supervising a five-member staff in evaluating all incoming inmates into the South Carolina Department of Corrections system. Also responsible for conducting complex evaluations and making special recommendations on inmates with special referral problems from the court (1979-1980).


Clinical Internship (APA accredited), The Children's Village, Dobbs Ferry, New York. Responsible for providing consultation in team approach to treatment, as well as individual treatment and assessment of behavioral problem children and adolescents. Conducted program evaluation by determining rater reliability of the Devereaux Adolescent Behavior Rating Scale (1978-1979).


Mental Health Consultant, Emergency Room, Richland Memorial Hospital/Columbia Area Community Mental Health Center, Columbia, South Carolina. Consulted with  medical staff in treatment and referral of mental health related emergencies. Made determinations as to appropriateness of involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations. In addition, provided crisis intervention for telephone and walk-in emergencies. Services provided in Tri-County hospital emergency room as part of emergency treatment team (1975-1976).
